Well not White yet anyway….it was hurtin so, thought install some floors, front apron, little rust repair, and a little tweaking and sell it and make a few bucks…well I got in over my head
I installed a set of pans, front apron, and tire well, pulled the right rear out (old fashion way, come a long and a tree) motor with all tin fits nice now, de chromed, and narrowed front beam 2″
some rust repair and pictures of the narrowed beam and adjuster install
This weekend (October 07) I finally got all the parts together to build the STF 2017 motor…it consists of a used $80 case (already aligned bored and cut for 90.5’s) a old Crane cam (same specs as a Engle 120), Bugpack straight cuts, used 90.5’s, used EMS 78.4 CW crank, CB Uni-tech rods , used 041 heads already cut for 90.5’s and even had 40×35.5 SS valves installed..so I whipped out the die grinder, carbides and flap wheels and had a go with them, also clearanced the case and full flowed too.. I ended up running a .070 deck with 54 cc in the head for a compression of 8.7…here’s a few pixs
It’s now November and the motor is done and installed, almost time for Bug Jam..BUT…..after cam break in I noticed a oil leak, thinking it was the oil cooler I pulled the motor …only to find this, yeah looks like a crack to me
Motor sounded sweet too…updates to follow
UPDATE…well it’s now December 8th and I’m building again…I broke down and purchased a Auto Linea case, high roof model to build the once known as STF motor…..There was a few mod’s I had to make before assemble
1. Distributor hole needed a hone, a bit tight
2. alignment of the oil pickup hole to oil pump was a bit off
3. case deburring
4. cut down lower sump ear (nearest rear of case) hit external oil sump, kept it from seating
5. cut down right ear that holds breast plate tin, also breast plate on left side needed clearencing as the case has a different contour than the oem case
6. Cylinder 1/2 side tin needs clearencing around bell housing area
7. Fan shroud where it meets the center of the case (high roof remember) needs a bit of clearencing also
here’s a picture of the short block
Well the motor is done and in and I fired it up yesterday ….and little tweaking and took it on it’s main voyage ..cars dirty but took a picture of it anyway…on the motor, so far no leaks…here’s a few pictures of the American Lemans wheels, motor and birthday present from the wifey (engraved Berg shifter) and Christmas (Autometer tach) cool huh!

Well I finally broke down and bought me a manual chain hoist… what are rafters for anyway…hey I don’t need help loading/unloading motors off the stand anymore
Took Mr. Whitey to the dragstrip last Friday night, time slip on left is first run (my car on right side of time slip) spun all the way through first gear, launched @ 3000 rpm, next run was without fan belt, launched @ 2500 rpm… street tires and mufflers
correct me if I’m wrong but it looks like 122hp with belt on and 135hp without fan belt at flywheel..car weighs 1840 with me in it….
Today Feb 29th drove Mr. Whitey to work, on the return trip home it started running weird and smelled like gas….opened the lid and this is what I found
I was lucky, seems the pump holder lost it’s grip and backed out, and with it came the pump squirter and filter spring….look close at the 2nd pix and you can see the spring laying on the rubber lip….man what luck
Here’s a little something I’ve been wanting to do for a while…take some pictures under the old Richeys VW sign in Winter Park. He was in business in the 70’s and the building is long gone but the vw on the pole is still there, it later was a car lot but now it just houses a few pigeons….
A bit of drag racing action, ran mid 14’s that day
Now that the motor is sporting a turbo it was time to run again, this time the motor is the same, just pulled carbs off and installed turbo, header, recurved distributor. I limited boost to 5psi as I’m still running pump gas and 8.5 compression
car # 9962, turbo on left slip, 36 Dells on right slip
After a few runs and some thinking time I decided to look at some other carburation . I’ve heard good things about the Holley 2 barrels so I thought I would give the 500cfm model a look. After finding one on e bay, it got a rebuild and a Percy Adjust A Jet and boost reference power valve mod. After talking with Locash John I got some hints on what to do. I built a simple intake and all that’s left is finish the linkage and some tuning.
Here’s the finished install with air cleaner, I used a 6 3/8″ chrome air cleaner I had for a bugspray (2 5/8″) and cut the bottom out to fit the Holley (5 1/8″)…Then it was time to modify the hood bracket to clear the air cleaner also….So this is what I came up with on the linkage, I welded a stock Solex carb arm to the Holleys and made a bracket to attach the cable too
There’s not much room but I can get the air cleaner off. I cut the hinge bottom off and welded a flat bottom to it, and welded gussets to the sides of the hinge for strength…it worked
WOW! it’s now September 08, man time flies huh….I removed the Holley and reinstalled the SU…I believe there’s still more in it before I jump ship. The Holley needed more work also and I wanted to totally redo the intake. I was having a lean spot when you would romp on it at cruising speeds, I cured that by changing the power valve from a 1.0 to a 4.5. I still did have the hesitation from idle to the transition area…I changed everything from squirter nozzles to pump cams with no luck…Okay back to the SU…I worked on the needle a bit more, it’s now down to what looks like a sewing needle…really….I’ll see if it helped, and I’ll try to get back out to the strip here in a few weeks. On the other hand I had to do something about the noise, running without a muffler was getting to me…I also freed up some ponys on the down pipe, I made it 2 1/2″ all the way to the tail pipe, before it was 2 1/2″ down to a 2″ stright pipe….man it sounds good and seems to make equal power. It’s a straight through glass pack from Summit…take a look
2017 With 2 inch SU starting up
Well here it is December 08 and I have a update. Back in September I ran out at Speedworld, I updated the needle on the SU and boost referenced the regulator. Well on the second pass I hurt the motor….I limped it home and took it apart the next day. I found I cracked #3 cylinder and took out 2 ring lands in piston #3 and #4 OUCH. I thought about it a while and desided to increase the displacement to 2176cc by cutting down some 94 cylinders to fit in the hole the 90.5 cylinders once felt home. The other modifications I made was changing out the 041 heads to a pair of 044’s I had (same valve sizes) with similar round port design. Also I left the turbo off and carbs went back on, a pair of Kadron single barrel’s with Treuhaft intakes fit the bill….pix and more updates to follow.
I took the 2176 (now updated with Dellorto 40’s) and did my first time Dyno session in Daytona, motor made 103.56 @ rear wheels with 125.12 torque

A little schooling for you…Before I purchased my Dell’s I got these IDF Webers, they were misrepresented as Spainish versions (Thanks Adam)….but if you look closely you’ll see the difference….Here’s a few pictures of USA made Webers….which suck
And this one is a Spanish Weber
I had a problem with the casting and leaks from the idle adjustment screw area, there’s others also…I would avoid at all costs..
Here’s a little video I made of the DubDyno and the Rally @ WinterJam 2009 in Daytona
It’s now mid 2009 and I got the turbo itch again so here’s my latest buy, a turbocharger from a Mazda CX7, don’t know what I’m going to pressurize but I’ll blow through something….

UPDATE: June 09
Well I decided to purchase a CB and connect the turbo to it, I made a new flange and reduced the collector to 2″

Today, I finished modifying the waste gate to fit under the turbo

Here it is August 09, I’m into a kitchen remodel so the turbo upgrade had to wait, but I purchased the rest of the goodies to do the install….Updates to follow
Here it is 1/20/10 and the kitchen is finished , I do have a few updates, I bought a pair of 45 Dells for the turbo motor and a set of Scat Procar seats (thanks Matt)
Here it is April 2010, and the turbo is mocked up, Lester is building me a trans and well I’m doing some plumbing work….on the motor that is. I updated the heads to a pair of Scat Super D’s, and a pair of Scat Super Comp 1.25 rockers, added turbo tubes, mod rings & rubber gaskets to carbs…..

More updates, it’s now 5/27/10 and the trans is done (thanks Lester) It’s got the beefy bits to hold the load, more updates to follow

Well this weekend got the motor and trans in, but sprung a couple of leaks, one oil line and on checking fuel pressure this piece of crap “China” fuel/vacuum gauge decided it wanted to leak internally, fuel everywhere, thanks NAPA, I plan on visting you…but on another note, the motor started and ran nice…oh and got my tail pipe made too

The motor is in and running and very well I might add, tonight (6/11/10) I decided to take it to the track to see what it can do as it’s really to loud to do any tuning on the street. One thing to remember is bring your jet pack with you…..it is a test & tune night after all isn’t it….as far as I got was an 1/8th mile pass as it leaned out and I had to let off, my car is #9962
Here’s a little vid of the motor running in the car

Well I have an update, I finally got it down the 1/4 mile….a/f this time was around 12.5 through the traps so I was good there, the outside temp was 102…yeah stinking hot, I ran street tires, muffler, just let it cool down for a half hour….there’s the time slip…my car on right
